Information, computing, and telecommunication technologies are increasingly critical to modern society. Their position will increase in importance as these technologies become embedded in the way all goods and services are produced and consumed. This project focuses on the strategic direction of leading firms in the information technology; computing and telecommunication (ICT) sector as they develop these technologies and contribute to the shape of new ‘systems’. We know these companies have responded to established forms of global environmental change, through changes to their production processes and products but how their strategic decisions are shaping a new information society and provoking new forms of global environmental change is less clear. This projects sets out to understand and enhance the way these firms – or systems organizers – incorporate environmental and sustainable development concerns in their strategic thinking and positions.
